September 11 is Patriot Day—a day to remember, reflect, and honor the lives changed forever by the events of September 11, 2001.
At The Salon Professional Academy Battle Creek, we join communities across the nation in remembering the thousands of people who lost their lives and honoring the courage of the first responders, firefighters, police officers, military members, healthcare workers, and everyday heroes who stepped forward to help others.
Remembering the Lives We Lost
Patriot Day is first and foremost a day of remembrance. We remember the innocent lives lost in New York City, at the Pentagon, and near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. We remember the families who experienced unimaginable loss and the many people whose lives were forever changed. More than two decades later, their stories remain an important part of our nation’s history.
Taking a moment to remember helps ensure that future generations understand not only what happened, but also the importance of compassion, courage, unity, and helping one another.
Honoring the Heroes
September 11 also reminds us of the extraordinary courage demonstrated by first responders and ordinary citizens. Firefighters, police officers, emergency medical personnel, military members, healthcare professionals, volunteers, and countless others put the needs of others before their own. Their actions demonstrated what it means to serve a community.
At TSPA Battle Creek, we believe that service is an important part of building a strong community. Whether it is helping a guest feel confident, supporting a fellow student, encouraging a classmate, or giving back to the community, small acts of kindness and service can make a meaningful difference.
A Day to Reflect on Unity
Patriot Day is also a reminder of the strength that comes from coming together. In the days and weeks following September 11, people across the country supported one another, helped their neighbors, and demonstrated compassion in countless ways. That spirit of unity continues to be something we can carry forward.
Our students are preparing for careers in beauty and wellness, but their education is about more than technical skills. We encourage our students to develop professionalism, compassion, confidence, and a commitment to serving others.
Teaching the Next Generation
As educators, we have an opportunity to help the next generation understand the importance of remembering history and appreciating those who make sacrifices for others.
Patriot Day gives us an opportunity to pause from our busy lives and reflect on the values that bring communities together: Compassion, Courage, Unity, Service, Remembrance
These values are important not only on September 11, but throughout the entire year.
